The Hut

Book

Gloucestershire Mountaineering Club The Hut is a traditional mountain hut in Snowdonia National Park, offering a straightforward and friendly place to stay for runners travelling to the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB. It’s a rural base designed for outdoor athletes who value rest, simplicity and proximity to nature.

Arriving here feels like stepping into a classic mountain refuge. The building is simple and functional, set against dramatic scenery, with shared spaces where runners can relax, chat and prepare kit. The atmosphere is quiet and supportive, with everyone staying for the same reason and an easy sense of community.

You are staying on a bed only basis, giving you full control over your race nutrition. There is a shared kitchen where you can prepare your own meals and snacks. Nearby villages offer cafés, bakeries and supermarkets for stocking up on familiar foods and race fuel.

This is a stay built around the outdoors. Step outside and you are straight onto mountain paths and forest trails, perfect for shake-out runs, easy walks and leg loosening. The surrounding landscape offers natural recovery in the form of fresh air, quiet surroundings and space to move. There are no spa or gym facilities, but the calm environment and access to gentle terrain make it easy to stay loose and relaxed before race day.

Rooms here are simple and practical, with bunk or twin-style sleeping, warm bedding and quiet nights in a mountain setting. Shared bathrooms with hot showers help ease tired legs, and the peaceful location supports deep rest before and after long days on the trails.
